The Stars and The Sky

Recreate the night sky with readily available materials found at home.

Suitable For: 4 - 5 years old

Environment: Indoors

Materials:

• Old newspaper

• Coloured paper

• Poster or acrylic paint

• Toothbrush

• Comb

• Water

• Palette

Step 1:

Observe the night sky and pick out colours. Dip a toothbrush into water and then into paint of appropriate colours.

Step 2:

Over a piece of paper, run the toothbrush across the comb and let the splatter of paint fall onto the paper.

Step 3:

Repeat steps 1 and 2 with different colours, until your child is satisfied with the result.

Step 4:

Talk about the artwork and compare it to the actual night sky. Find similarities and differences.
