Sort Me Out!

Updated: Dec 29, 2021

This activity will allow kids to develop their pre-math skills and understand the concept of sorting.

Skill Level: Easy

Suitable For: 3 - 4 years old

Estimated Time: < 15 mins

Environment: Indoors

Materials:

  • Cups

  • Ice-cream sticks

  • Pictures of animals (use plastic animals as an alternative)

  • Blue tack

  • Scissors

  • Plastic laminate

Step 1:

Print 6 sets of the following animals: elephant, lion, bear, zebra and giraffe. Then, laminate all the images.

Step 2:

Cut out the animals with scissors and attach them (five sets) on ice cream sticks by using blue tack (one animal to one stick).

Step 3:

Stick some blue tack onto the cup.

Step 4:

Get the child to select an animal (not attached to the ice cream stick) and paste it onto the cup. If the child picks a giraffe for example, the cup will be “labelled” with the picture of the giraffe. The child has to sort and pick up all the giraffes and place it in the cup. Repeat step 4 using different animals.
