During Chinese New Year, we have hanging ornaments with tangerines connected with red strings and red paper because they're believed to bring good luck and happiness. The Chinese words for “tangerine” closely resemble the words for “prosperity” and “wealth”. The red in Chinese culture corresponds with fire symbolizing good fortune and joy.
