Make simple counters using broad beans

Step 1

Gather the materials

Step 2

Paint one side of the 10 broad beans in white and let it dry on the newspaper. If you wish to, you may paint the other side red, if not, leave it as green.

Step 3

To play the game, children will take 10 broad beans each. Each child will take turns to toss their broad beans.

Step 4

After each toss, they will count how many are green and how many are white as they line them in the boxes along the grid on the place mat.

Step 5

To document, they will colour in the number of red and white circles accordingly on the worksheet and record the numerals. The children will learn that different numbers add up to 10. Use a zip lock bag to store the counters for future use.
